Tree Works Management — We Manage the Crews That Cut Trees, We Don’t Cut Them Ourselves
Specialist tree works project management for risk-averse NSW projects — Government, mining, civil construction and major developers. Single accountable AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist managing your tree clearing from initial quote to final compliance certificate β backed by a Licensed Builder’s project-management chops and 15+ years of tree-industry relationships.
Fixed-price quotes Β· single accountable AQF5 Β· environmental compliance assuredTree contractor. Licensed builder. Consulting arborist. The only consultant who’s been all three.
Most consulting arborists write the report and leave the actual works to whatever tree-contractor the client picks. Most tree contractors execute the cutting without coordination beyond the basic scope. The result on risk-averse projects: fragmented accountability, compliance gaps during the riskiest phase of the build, and pricing surprises that show up after the contract is signed.
We close that gap. As a former AQF Level 3 Arborist (operated a full tree-removal crew for 10+ years), NSW Licensed Builder, and AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist, we coordinate the contractors who execute the works β we just don’t perform the cutting ourselves. Net cost to the client matches β or beats β engaging tree contractors directly. Our 15+ years of tree-industry relationships, volume, and knowing what each job actually costs the right crew means we procure better than the open market; you pay a competitive market rate for the works, with management, accountability and compliance work bundled on top.
Why Tree Works Management exists for high-risk NSW projects
Tree clearing on a development site usually has to happen before tree-protection measures (TPF fencing, ground protection) can be installed β you can’t fence off trees you’re about to remove, and you need to clear some trees to access the protection works. That makes the clearing phase the highest-risk window on any tree-affected site:
- Heavy machinery moving in alongside retained trees that are now unprotected
- Multiple sub-contractors working in close proximity to high-value vegetation
- Environmental compliance obligations the principal contractor is legally responsible for
- A Tree Protection Plan (TPP) or Tree Protection Specification (TPS) that almost always requires AQF Level 5 supervision during the clearing phase as a consent condition
A client who fragments the engagement across four suppliers β one consultant for the AIA, another for the TPP, a Project Arborist for supervision, and a tree contractor for the cutting β is exposing themselves to four predictable problems: coordination overhead, compliance gaps when the supervisor isn’t on site, environmental risk from contractors working without specialist oversight, and pricing uncertainty as each component is quoted separately upfront.
Our bundle eliminates all four. AIA β TPP β Project Arborist supervision β Tree Works Management, delivered under one engagement, one accountable AQF5, one fixed-price quote upfront. No fragmentation. No supplier-to-supplier hand-offs. No “who’s responsible for that?” when something goes wrong on site.
What’s included in a Tree Works Management engagement
Every engagement is scoped against your project’s stage, scale and risk profile. The standard set:
Fixed-Price Quote
Built from real contractor pricing knowledge (AQF Level 3 background), not arborist estimates. Your procurement team gets a number they can put in the budget without a “subject to” caveat.
Contractor Sourcing & Vetting
Qualified tree-removal contractors sourced from 15+ years of industry relationships. We know who’s compliant, who’s reliable on programme, and who shouldn’t be on your site. You don’t have to vet them.
Multi-Contractor Coordination
On larger sites we coordinate multiple specialist crews working in sequence β climbers, ground crew, chipper operators, EWP operators, traffic management. One accountable point, one schedule, one set of compliance documents.
On-Site AQF5 Supervision
An AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist on site during the clearing phase β often a TPP/TPS consent requirement. We monitor compliance with the tree-protection plan in real time, not after the fact.
Compliance Documentation
Sign-off certificates, photographic records, methodology statements, council notifications β delivered in the format your procurement team, certifier or regulator actually needs. No reformatting your end.
Environmental Risk Management
Protection of retained trees, hazard management, traffic management plans, council notifications, neighbour communications β managed by an AQF5 with TRAQ and IACA STAR methodologies in the background.
Tree Works Management — two engagement models
Add-on to an existing consulting engagement
You’ve already engaged us for an Arboricultural Impact Assessment or Tree Protection Plan. The coordination service is the logical next step β same consultant carries the project through to compliance certificate, no supplier-to-supplier hand-off at the riskiest phase. AIA β TPP β Project Arborist supervision β Tree Works Management.
Direct engagement, no prior consulting required
Common for Government, Mining, large developers and other risk-averse clients who already have arboricultural reports from elsewhere β or don’t need them β but want a single accountable AQF5 managing the actual tree clearing works. Same scope of service. Same fixed-price discipline upfront.
Who Tree Works Management is for
This service is designed for clients where tree clearing is a high-risk activity and accountability needs to sit with a single professional, not be fragmented across multiple suppliers.
Government infrastructure
NSW Health, NSW Property, NSW Schools Infrastructure, Transport for NSW, DPI and federal/local agencies. Procurement-driven, risk-averse, want single accountable AQF5 for compliance.
Mining
Glencore and similar. Large-scale land clearing and ongoing vegetation management with high environmental compliance stakes.
Civil & commercial construction
Duratec, Downer, Hutchinson Builders, Hansen Yuncken, Richard Crookes, Built, Ford Civil, Robson Civil, Baseline Projects. Multi-month engagements, the bundle proposition lands hardest here.
Utilities
Endeavour Energy and similar. Powerline corridor clearance, easement maintenance, recurring vegetation management.
Residential developers
Subdivisions and larger residential builds with significant tree clearing required. Aaron’s NSW Builder background means recommendations are buildable on a real site.
Body corporates & large landholders
Where insurance, duty of care, or council compliance requires professional management of works on retained vegetation β often paired with prior Tree Risk Assessments.
Need to verify root locations before or during clearing?
We own our Air Spade and mobile compressor in-house β most consultants and contractors have to hire either or both. Non-destructive root investigations done in days, lighter on fine feeder roots than hydro-vac, no waste slurry to dispose of. See our Root Investigation service β
How our tree works management pricing works
Tree Works Management is quoted per project, not from a rate card. Every engagement is bespoke and depends on tree count, site complexity, contractor scope, supervision frequency, and compliance documentation requirements. What we commit to:
- Fixed-price quote upfront β built from real contractor pricing knowledge, so your procurement team gets a number that doesn’t slide between quote and delivery
- Competitive net cost β your total cost matches or beats engaging tree contractors directly. We procure better than the open market through 15+ years of contractor relationships, volume, and knowing the right rate for the right job. Coordination, supervision, documentation and compliance are bundled into the fixed price β no separate fee surprises
- Quote within 24 hours of receiving project details β same commitment we apply to all our consulting work
- Transparent scope of work β exactly what’s covered, exactly what’s not, written in language your project manager can read once

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between this service and just hiring a tree contractor?
A tree contractor will execute the cutting to the scope they’re given. They won’t write the supervision documentation your certifier needs, won’t manage compliance with the Tree Protection Plan during the clearing phase, won’t liaise with council or document environmental management for procurement, and typically won’t coordinate sub-contractors beyond their own crew. Tree Works Management delivers all of that β the contractor still does the cutting, we manage everything around it.
Why do TPPs and TPSs often specify AQF Level 5 supervision during clearing?
Because tree clearing usually has to happen before tree-protection measures (TPF fencing, ground protection) can be installed β you can’t fence off trees you’re about to remove. That makes the clearing phase the highest-risk window on any tree-affected site, with heavy machinery operating alongside unprotected retained trees. AS 4970-2025 and most NSW councils now treat AQF5 supervision during this window as a consent-condition standard. Without it, the consent condition isn’t satisfied and the certifier won’t sign off the relevant inspections.
How can you offer fixed-price quotes when most tree contractors quote ranges?
Because our principal consultant operated as a full tree-removal contractor for 10+ years (AQF Level 3) before transitioning to consulting. We know what tree clearing actually costs to deliver, by tree, by complexity, by site access. We can build a fixed-price quote upfront that reflects real delivery cost without the rate-card inflation contractors use to protect themselves against unknowns. Most consulting arborists can’t do this because they’ve never priced contractor work themselves.
How does your pricing actually work β is there a markup on contractor fees?
Our model is procurement arbitrage β the same model head contractors, project managers and managed-services providers use across every industry. Through 15+ years of tree-industry relationships, the right volume across multiple projects, and knowing what each job actually costs the right contractor, we can usually procure tree-removal work at rates below what an end client can negotiate on the open market. We then quote you a fixed price upfront that matches β or beats β what you’d pay engaging the same contractors yourself. Our margin sits in the procurement difference, not in inflating your costs. You pay a competitive market rate for the works; you get management, accountability and compliance work bundled on top.
What size project does Tree Works Management make sense for?
The service makes commercial sense from around 20 trees and up, depending on site complexity and risk profile. For smaller jobs (handful of trees, simple residential context), engaging a tree contractor directly is usually more cost-effective. For larger sites, projects with significant retained vegetation, sites where the TPP/TPS requires AQF5 supervision, and projects with formal procurement processes (govt, mining, civil), the coordinated approach saves money and risk relative to fragmented engagement.
Can you coordinate multiple contractors on a single job?
Yes β multi-contractor coordination is one of the situations where this service earns its fee back fastest. On larger sites we routinely sequence specialist climbers, ground crews, chipper operators, EWP operators and traffic-management contractors in a single schedule, with one set of compliance documentation across all of them.
Do you work outside NSW?
We’re NSW-based and most of our work is in the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast and Sydney. For Victorian and Queensland projects we accept work at a $15,000 + GST minimum project size β typically larger commercial or infrastructure jobs where our credential combination and the bundle proposition are worth flying us in for.
