Tree Works Management — We Manage the Crews That Cut Trees, We Don’t Cut Them Ourselves

A tree contractor will execute the cutting to the scope they’re given. They won’t write the supervision documentation your certifier needs, won’t manage compliance with the Tree Protection Plan during the clearing phase, won’t liaise with council or document environmental management for procurement, and typically won’t coordinate sub-contractors beyond their own crew. Tree Works Management delivers all of that — the contractor still does the cutting, we manage everything around it.

Because tree clearing usually has to happen before tree-protection measures (TPF fencing, ground protection) can be installed — you can’t fence off trees you’re about to remove. That makes the clearing phase the highest-risk window on any tree-affected site, with heavy machinery operating alongside unprotected retained trees. AS 4970-2025 and most NSW councils now treat AQF5 supervision during this window as a consent-condition standard. Without it, the consent condition isn’t satisfied and the certifier won’t sign off the relevant inspections.

Because our principal consultant operated as a full tree-removal contractor for 10+ years (AQF Level 3) before transitioning to consulting. We know what tree clearing actually costs to deliver, by tree, by complexity, by site access. We can build a fixed-price quote upfront that reflects real delivery cost without the rate-card inflation contractors use to protect themselves against unknowns. Most consulting arborists can’t do this because they’ve never priced contractor work themselves.

Our model is procurement arbitrage — the same model head contractors, project managers and managed-services providers use across every industry. Through 15+ years of tree-industry relationships, the right volume across multiple projects, and knowing what each job actually costs the right contractor, we can usually procure tree-removal work at rates below what an end client can negotiate on the open market. We then quote you a fixed price upfront that matches — or beats — what you’d pay engaging the same contractors yourself. Our margin sits in the procurement difference, not in inflating your costs. You pay a competitive market rate for the works; you get management, accountability and compliance work bundled on top.

The service makes commercial sense from around 20 trees and up, depending on site complexity and risk profile. For smaller jobs (handful of trees, simple residential context), engaging a tree contractor directly is usually more cost-effective. For larger sites, projects with significant retained vegetation, sites where the TPP/TPS requires AQF5 supervision, and projects with formal procurement processes (govt, mining, civil), the coordinated approach saves money and risk relative to fragmented engagement.

Yes — multi-contractor coordination is one of the situations where this service earns its fee back fastest. On larger sites we routinely sequence specialist climbers, ground crews, chipper operators, EWP operators and traffic-management contractors in a single schedule, with one set of compliance documentation across all of them.

We’re NSW-based and most of our work is in the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast and Sydney. For Victorian and Queensland projects we accept work at a $15,000 + GST minimum project size — typically larger commercial or infrastructure jobs where our credential combination and the bundle proposition are worth flying us in for.
